Examples of Macy's Union Square merchandising displays and chain-wide collateral. * 125+ stores from Texas to Hawaii, and Guam with the addition of Liberty House in 2001. San Francisco Corporate offices were moved to Cincinnati in 2005.

Applied Information

Some of many projects done during my 5 years at Aaron Marcus and Assoc.

Part of a proposed interface for Lawrence Berkeley Labs Human Genome Project.

(Illustration in Freehand on a Mac II and animated in Director to emulate a UNIX/Motif system). The large arrow points to a slider that allows the researcher to track up and down the DNA strand. Information about the section is displayed on the right and is controlled as an outline. The images were presented as a slide show. Aaron Marcus and Assoc.

The graph below is part of an comprehensive 12 volume set describing all the input and output devices of the day and a reference manual comparing all the windowing systems.

After being part of the research team, my job was to produce all the charts and illustrations, lay out the master print documents in MS Word and then translate the entire project into the first version of Word for Windows. Not an easy process. It required reassigning document fonts, changing all the line breaks and relinking every placed image file.

Motorola, In Car Navigation System - Animated Prototype

Above is a proposed design for Motorola's in car navigation system done at AMA. This prototype system was under development before Honda came out with an ugly one commercially. Our design was never put into production but it received an ID Magazine Design Award in 1993. The team worked on the map while I prototyped the plastic casing. Prototypes for software and hardware were quickly done in 2D drawing programs by creating a slide show where pieces changed to show movement. It explained complicated concepts in seconds instead of pages worth of words.

Instructional Drawings

This was a logo design project that expanded to include instructions on how to use their website, collateral (like the bumper sticker above) and an animated banner ad that cycles through 5 languages.

One of a set of images for a proposed new service.

Cartography

Personal family history work: Research, layout design and illustration of the Cole/Soberanes family tree
On display at the family home Casa Soberanes in Old Town Monterey, CA and Mission Soledad. Cartography for presentation materials illustrating the exploits of Jose Maria Soberanes (Soberanes Ridge, Big Sur) and other family members in Mexico, South and North America.

Detail of this 11x17 map.
